The Otorii of Gokoku Shrine in Fukuoka Prefecture stands 13 meters tall, directly across from the Fukuoka Art Museum. It is a wooden structure built from Taiwanese Alishan cypress logs with almost no alteration to the original timber. When it was erected in 1943, it was too large to move by vehicle, so schoolchildren from nearby elementary schools moved it using tug-of-war ropes and log rollers. The Otorii is currently covered for repair work.
