The three-story stone pagoda stands at the eastern edge of Nangsan in Guhwang-dong, Gyeongju. It was built by King Hyoso of Unified Silla to pray for the repose of his father King Sinmun and for the peace of the country, and it is 7.3 meters tall. Designated National Treasure No. 37, the pagoda yielded two pure gold Buddha statues that are now held at the National Museum of Korea, and excavations are underway at the surrounding temple site. Parking space is small and the approach passes through farm roads and village alleys, so large vehicles have difficulty getting there.
