In Shirakawa Park in Nagoya, a large ring-shaped sundial stands between the Nagoya City Science Museum and the art museum, next to a fountain. Its shadow indicates the local apparent solar time, and the twelve zodiac signs are carved around the base. The Nagoya Central Lions Club donated it in 1979, and from the front the semicircle beneath the sundial appears to wrap around the planetarium dome. To check Japan Standard Time, subtract the 7.6-minute longitude difference and the equation of time from the shadow's reading.
