Perry's Banner Rock sits behind a lookout point on the Pacific side of Okinawa, where the view and the site can be taken in together. In 1853 Perry's party rested here during their expedition and raised the American flag, and the same rock appears in a drawing of the scene from that time. From the parking lot, follow the signs along the rear path for about three minutes to reach it, and the Pacific is visible from the lookout points nearby. Grass grows taller than a person and covers the handrail and the climbing path, making the rock difficult to approach.
